Media Liaison Volunteer

The Media Liaison Volunteer role is accountable to the BCSR Committee of Management, is a financial member of the BCSR and regularly consults with the Promotions Lead, Volunteer Co-ordinator, Volunteers and relevant media outlets across the Bellarine.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in media, journalism, public relations or community storytelling
- Confidence talking to people and building relationships
- Ability to work independently and manage small tasks
- Digital literacy skills in
- Experience writing media releases and social media content
- Friendly, approachable, and community-minded
- Reliable and willing to collaborate
- Respectful, especially when handling sensitive stories or information.
Key Responsibilities
Media Support
- Help build and maintain positive relationships with local media outlets.
- Assist with responding to media enquiries (with support from leadership).
- Share newsworthy updates, events and stories with media contacts.
Content Creation
- Draft simple media releases, short articles or social media posts.
- Help gather stories from volunteers, clients or community members (with sensitivity and permission).
- Prepare basic talking points or notes for spokespersons when needed
- Lead the preparation of Registrant Newsletters and Annual Report
Promotion & Awareness
- Look for opportunities to promote the organisation’s work in local newspapers, radio, community newsletters and online platforms
- Support the promotion of events, campaigns, and fundraising activities
Media Monitoring
- Keep an eye on local news for relevant stories or opportunities
- Maintain a repository of promotional photos using appropriate permissions
- Track any media coverage the organisation receives.

- Participate in training and attend meetings as required 7. Report any issues of concern to the Volunteer Co-ordinator
- Undertake other tasks as agreed.
- Any offer of a volunteer role with BCSR will be subject to a satisfactory National Police Record Check and Working with Children Check where applicable.
- Agreeing and signing of Confidentiality agreement and Code of Conduct during induction
Work Health and Safety
This position is mostly desk-based work. You may be required to be sitting for prolonged periods and operating a computer and telephone. You may also be required to engage with other sections of the organisation which may involve some physical tasks including manual handling, bending, kneeling, twisting, squatting and lifting.
