Parramatta Open is the first satellite edition of Sydney Open, Australia’s premier open-building event. First launched in 1997, Sydney Open gives fans of architecture and heritage the opportunity to visit some of the oldest buildings in Sydney as well as architecturally significant new buildings, many of which are rarely open to the public.
For this exciting expansion we will be opening 16 of Parramatta’s notable sites to ticketholders on Saturday 29 August, exploring the history and development of the CBD.
Parramatta Open benefits from the support of enthusiastic volunteers, who help to welcome visitors and provide a memorable experience. If you are passionate about your city and want to share your knowledge with visitors, we welcome you to apply for the Site Volunteer role.
We're looking for Site Volunteers who can work a half-day shift on the day of the event, 29 August 2026, as well as attend the mandatory briefing session on 13 August 2026. On the day you will be part of a team of 2-10 volunteers, supported by a Volunteer Site Supervisor.
Site Volunteers play a key role in creating a positive atmosphere for visitors and assisting in the efficient operation of the site. As thanks for your participation you will receive a wristband entry to the event so you can explore along with the public after your shift.
If you have an interest in architecture and design, museums, or heritage this is an opportunity for you to see behind the scenes of some of Parramatta's most notable buildings and connect with likeminded members of the public.
