Volunteer (Academic Support)

The Mount Druitt Ethnic Communities Agency (MECA) is a community-based organisation dedicated to informing, linking, and empowering people from culturally diverse backgrounds. As part of our commitment to education and youth development, we are currently seeking volunteers to support our Suburban University Study Hub. In this role, you will assist students with navigating study resources, provide basic academic support, help manage attendance, and contribute to creating a welcoming, focused, and inclusive learning environment for young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

Commitment

Regular - more than 6 months

Time required

2-3 days per week. Flexible to work half day between 9 am - 1 pm, 1 pm - 5 pm and 3pm - 9pm or a time that suits you. Volunteer hours are flexible around study, work, and other commitments

Working with Children Check

A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain one (we can assist with this process) Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with young people from diverse backgrounds Basic computer or research skills to support students with school or TAFE work A friendly, non-judgmental attitude and the ability to build rapport with young people Punctuality and reliability Respect for confidentiality and child safety guidelines Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, youth work, or education is welcomed but not essential Completion of MECA’s volunteer induction and any relevant training sessions
