Community Gardens Australia

About Community Gardens Australia

Community Gardens Australia (CGA) is the national peak body supporting, connecting and advocating for community gardens across Australia. We work with hundreds of community gardens, volunteers, councils and partner organisations to strengthen local food systems, environmental sustainability, health and wellbeing, and community connection.

As a volunteer-led organisation, we rely on passionate people who are committed to helping grow the community gardening movement and supporting the systems that keep our organisation running efficiently.

Position Purpose

The Volunteer Website Coordinator helps ensure CGA's website remains accurate, organised, engaging and easy to navigate.

Working alongside a small team of volunteers and Board Directors, this role is responsible for maintaining and improving the CGA website, updating content, supporting our online membership and learning systems, and helping organise the large collection of resources that support our work.

The Website Coordinator also assists operational volunteers and Directors by locating and providing relevant website information, reports and datasets that support projects, decision-making and member services.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys keeping systems organised, solving problems and ensuring information is easy to access.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the Community Gardens Australia website using WordPress.
  • Manage website content, including pages, news articles, blog posts, events and downloadable resources.
  • Maintain and support CGA's MemberPress membership system and MPCourses online learning platform.
  • Upload and update course materials, membership information and website resources as required.
  • Improve the organisation and structure of website resources, documents and digital assets to make them easier to find and manage.
  • Assist with maintaining website navigation, menus and content consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the user experience and website functionality.
  • Generate and provide relevant website, membership or resource datasets and reports to operational volunteers and Board Directors when required.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting of website content and membership issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the Social Media Manager and Communications volunteers to ensure website content supports current campaigns and events.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage digital resources and information logically.
  • Confidence extracting, organising and presenting website or membership data when required.
  • Good written communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating with a friendly volunteer team.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience with website plugins and updates.
  • Basic understanding of SEO and website accessibility.
  • Experience supporting online learning platforms.
  • An interest in community development, sustainability or not-for-profit organisations.
