Make and Mend Volunteers (Social Craft Group)

Longbeach Learning and Activity Centre Inc.

Make and Mend Volunteer – Longbeach Learning and Activity Centre (LLAC)

Do you enjoy craft, making, mending or creative projects, and want to give something back to your local community? We’re looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to help start our new Make and Mend group at LLAC in Chelsea.

Make and Mend will be a relaxed social craft group where people bring their own supplies and work on their own projects. This might include knitting, crochet, mending, hand sewing, embroidery, paper craft or other small creative projects.

This is social first, craft second. It is not a formal class, so you do not need to be an expert. The focus is on creating a welcoming space where people connect, chat, share ideas and enjoy making things together.

We’re looking to build a small, friendly volunteer team, so you won’t be on your own, and we’re happy to work around your availability.

What you’ll do:

  • Welcome participants and help people feel included
  • Help create a relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere
  • Encourage conversation, connection and sharing of ideas
  • Share basic craft knowledge where useful
  • Help set up and pack down the room before and after each session
  • Let LLAC staff know if any issues need follow-up

What you’ll need:

  • An interest in craft, making, mending or creative projects
  • A friendly and inclusive approach
  • Reliability — we count on our volunteers
  • Willingness to work with other volunteers and LLAC staff
  • A current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one

Why volunteer with us?

  • Help start a new local group built around creativity and connection
  • Meet people with shared interests
  • Support community wellbeing in a practical, welcoming way
  • Join a respected neighbourhood house serving Chelsea for over 50 years
  • Give a little time and make a real difference locally

Why now? Volunteering with LLAC is also a chance to be part of something bigger. We’re growing programs that reflect the changing needs of a more diverse, vibrant Chelsea community.

Make and Mend will run on either Tuesday or Thursday. The exact day and time will depend on volunteer availability.

We’re looking to build a small team of volunteers, so the role can be shared. We expect volunteers will be needed for around 1 to 3 hours per week, including setup and pack-up.
