Conservation Volunteers Australia, in partnership with Chevron Australia and the City of Kwinana, are working together to care for the growing Urban Shade Forests recently planted across the Kwinana region this year!

After months of planting thousands of native seedlings, our focus now turns to helping them thrive! These events are all about nurturing young seedlings through weeding, mulching, and watering — giving them the best chance to grow strong and provide shade, wildlife habitat, and cooler spaces for the community. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn about local ecosystems, meet like-minded people, and make a real difference in the Ipswich region.

What will I be doing on the day? All of our events begin with a safety induction and training from a CVA Team Leader or Council staff member.

As part of the day, you’ll work alongside our friendly team to help maintain the newly planted native species at our worksite. Activities may include weeding, mulching, watering, and litter collection. Events generally run for 2-3 hours, and you’re welcome to join as many as you like!

What skills or experience do I need? No prior experience is needed! Our Team Leaders will provide all necessary training and guidance on the day. A can-do attitude and a willingness to work with others are all you need to be a Conservation Volunteer.

Generally all are welcome - our events are suitable for most age groups (ages 10 - 85). Children aged 3-14 must be directly supervised by a parent or legal guardian. Some sites may have uneven ground, and maintenance work can involve bending or light lifting and identifying native plants from exotic species, but if you have any concerns about participating, just contact us.

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  • Once you send your application via Seek, we’ll contact you with registration details. Spaces are limited, and they do fill up!

  • No previous experience required — all tools, training, and equipment are provided.

  • Volunteers need to make their own way to and from the project site (transport not provided).

  • We can provide a certificate of appreciation for your participation — perfect for resumes and community service recognition!
