Join Our ACVVS 1:1 Program: Make a Difference in the Lives of Elderly Residents
Your presence can brighten someoneās day and help reduce loneliness, while giving you the chance to form meaningful connections and give back to the community.
What is ACVVS?
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) connects volunteers with older people who may be socially isolated, creating regular friendship, companionship and meaningful connection. We are looking for someone who puts compassion, connection and caring for other people at the heart of everything they do.
'Joseph' is a friendly gentleman with a lifelong love of animals and nature, especially birds, having previously been a dedicated budgie breeder. He enjoys getting out into the community for cafƩ visits and a coffee and chat, and recently enjoyed a trip to Healesville Sanctuary. 'Joseph' would appreciate a regular volunteer visitor for friendly conversation and companionship, helping him stay connected to the community and the things he enjoys.
What Youāll Do:
- Enjoy a chat over a cup of coffee or tea
- Listen to and share life stories
- Play scrabble, play cards, or work on puzzles
- Listen to their favourite music or watch a favourite TV show
Why Volunteer? Many elderly Australians in aged care homes face loneliness and social isolation. By volunteering just one hour a fortnight, you can make a significant difference in their lives. You'll be matched one-on-one with a resident who could greatly benefit from your friendship. Studies show that loneliness can be as detrimental to health as smoking, and sadly, over 40% of people in aged care lack regular visitors. Your presence can help bridge this gap.
Program Details:
- Dedication: We're looking for people to create new friendships with our residents and as such, would hope you'd want to visit that friend approximately 20 times over a twelve-month period, at least once every 2-3 weeks.
- Requirements: Must be over 18 years old, pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) (provided and paid for by us) and ideally be available to visit consistently and ongoing.
Ideal Volunteers:
- Exhibit care and compassion for the elderly
- Have excellent communication skills
- Are committed and punctual
What Youāll Gain:
- The chance to form long-lasting, meaningful friendships
- Be part of a friendly team with a strong community spirit
- Experience the joy of enriching the lives of others
