The opportunity

Our playgroup is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer to take on the role of President.

About Hohnes Road Playhouse

Hohnes Road Playhouse, a beloved nonprofit, has served the community for over 50 years, offering a welcoming space for families and children since 1970. Many locals have cherished memories of playgroups, birthdays, and occasional care here. Today, the Playhouse hosts vibrant playgroups every weekday morning, providing a space for children and carers to play, learn, and socialize. On weekends, the Playhouse accommodates up to four birthday parties.

Run by a dedicated volunteer Committee of Management, this passionate group of individuals ensures that the Playhouse remains a nurturing space for the community. As a registered entity with Playgroup Victoria, Hohnes Road Playhouse adheres to the regulations and standards set forth by the organization, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead the committee. You will lead and coordinate the efforts of our dedicated committee members. This takes place by email primarily, and once per term committee meetings. By organizing meetings and delegating tasks, you will ensure that the playgroup operates smoothly and achieves its goals.
  • Point of contact with the council. As President, you will be the primary point of contact with the local council, who own and maintain the property.
  • Financial oversight and bookkeeping. The role involves overseeing the financial health of the playgroup, alongside the treasurer who manages day to day finances.
  • Fostering community. Creating a welcoming atmosphere for children, parents, and volunteers is at the heart of this role. Your enthusiasm and commitment will help build a supportive and inclusive community where everyone feels valued.
  • Events planning. Each term we have one incursion for the playgroups. Social events and end of year celebrations are also a great way to engage the community and recruit families to the playgroups.
  • Little tasks – Ordering supplies, onboarding new committee members, planning play equipment upgrades, insurance renewals and liaising with Playgroups Victoria, are some examples of other small tasks that the president takes responsibility for.

Time commitment

4 hours per week. Many tasks can be completed remotely, however being local, so you can come by the playhouse to check on facilities and events is also part of the role.
