POW Australia is a volunteer-driven non-profit turning love for the mountains into climate action. We protect Australia’s alpine environments by educating communities, mobilising supporters, and advocating for the policies that will keep our winters alive. **About the Role **

The Comms & Storytelling Lead is responsible for shaping POW’s public voice, growing our audience, and delivering campaign communications that support our three strategic pillars: Educate, Mobilise, and Advocate. This role combines storytelling, social media and marketing to raise awareness and drive engagement.

This position is shared as a Role Pair. You will work closely with a co-lead to plan content, split up creative tasks, cover for each other during busy periods, and alternate attending monthly leadership meetings. Together, you’ll make sure POW’s campaigns are engaging and resonate with the outdoor community and beyond.

Commitment & Context: This is a voluntary role with an expected commitment of about 3 to 5 hours per week.

**Key Responsibilities **

You will manage our public communication channels and help share our campaign stories. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Lead communication and marketing strategies across active campaigns.
  • Develop and facilitate engaging narrative and storytelling content for digital channels, media etc – often in partnership with our Alliance and Local Alliances.
  • Manage social media channels, media outreach, and content creation workflows.
  • Plan and deliver digital marketing campaigns, including email newsletters and audience growth initiatives.
  • Use analytics and supporter data to track and improve campaign performance.
  • Support campaign launches, key announcement moments, and amplify ground-level alliance updates.

**About You **

We are looking for a creative communicator who enjoys digital media and content creation. Ideally, you bring:

Required: Experience in communications, marketing, or media production.

Required: Strong storytelling and content creation skills.

Required: Practical experience with digital marketing tools and analytics.

Required: Ability to translate environmental or policy issues into clear, action-oriented content.

Required: A collaborative approach suited for a shared role pair partnership.

Highly Desirable: Experience with media relations or working with ambassadors and athlete voices.

Highly Desirable: Basic graphic design or multimedia skills (Canva, Adobe Suite, etc.).

**Performance Goals **

Success means growing a connected digital audience and keeping our messaging consistent. Your progress will be evaluated on:

  • Steady growth in audience reach and engagement across our digital platforms.
  • Strong campaign visibility and consistent storytelling impact.
  • Increased supporter acquisition, volunteer pipeline sign-ups, and retention.
  • Effective use of data to improve communication strategies.
  • A reliable and high-quality flow of content across your role pair.
