**About Protect Our Winters (POW) **

POW Australia is a volunteer-driven non-profit turning love for the mountains into climate action. We protect Australia’s alpine environments by educating communities, mobilising supporters, and advocating for the policies that will keep our winters alive. This role builds the understanding that makes action possible — turning science into stories that connect people to what’s at stake.

**About the Role **

The National Education Coordinator is responsible for guiding POW’s educational initiatives, directly leading our Educate pillar. This role focuses on taking complex climate science, environmental data, and alpine impacts, and breaking them down into clear, accessible resources that inform and inspire our community.

As part of POW’s structure, this position is shared as a Role Pair. You will work closely with a co-lead to shape the educational direction, share the workload, cover for each other when life gets busy, and alternate attending monthly leadership meetings. Together, you’ll help provide our community, local alliances, and ambassadors with the knowledge they need to advocate confidently for climate action.

Commitment & Context: This is a voluntary role with an expected commitment of about 3 to 5 hours per week.

**Key Responsibilities **

You will work with your co-lead to build out our educational resources and insights. Your main areas of focus will be:

  • Develop and lead POW’s educational strategy, aligning content with our core campaign and organisational goals.
  • Champion our alpine flagship species — including the Mountain Pygmy-possum, Gang-gang Cockatoo, Corroboree Frog, and Snow Gum — as the emotional and scientific centrepiece of our education work, translating climate science and species data into compelling, accessible resources.
  • Develop the flagship species education toolkit and talking points to support our local alliances, volunteer networks, schools program, and resort-based visitor education.
  • Collaborate with the Comms & Storytelling pair to integrate credible, factual insights into public content and social media.
  • Lead or support educational engagement programs including schools visits, alpine resort activations, community workshops, and digital learning content — feeding directly into campaign reach goals.
  • Maintain the scientific accuracy and currency of all POW public materials, and support the Advocacy & Campaigns Lead with evidence-based content for policy submissions and government engagement.

**About You **

We are looking for someone who loves learning and enjoys making complex information accessible to a broad audience. Ideally, you bring:

Required: Experience or strong capability in education, research, science communication, or resource creation.

Required: Ability to break down technical or complex environmental topics into clear, everyday language.

Required: Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.

Required: A collaborative approach suited for a shared role pair structure.

Required: High comfort coordinating with different stakeholders and creative teams.

Highly Desirable: A background or qualification in environmental science, climate policy, or sustainability education.

Highly Desirable: Experience designing workshops, educational presentations, or community learning guides.

**Performance Goals **

Your work will help build a well-informed community equipped to advocate for the mountains. Your goals include:

  • Successful development and rollout of the flagship species education toolkit and other key educational resources, supporting the Fossil-Fuels Campaign and broader POW education goals.
  • Consistent accuracy and credibility across all public-facing POW educational messaging.
  • Strong collaboration with the Comms and Community pairs to ensure resources are used effectively.
  • Increased community understanding of alpine climate impacts, including the threatened status of our flagship species, and the link between fossil fuels and alpine decline.
  • A sustainable, shared workflow across your role pair that keeps content delivery consistent.
