**About Protect Our Winters (POW) **

POW Australia is a volunteer-driven non-profit turning love for the mountains into climate action. We protect Australia’s alpine environments by educating communities, mobilising supporters, and advocating for the policies that will keep our winters alive. This role keeps it all running — the quiet backbone that lets every other part of the organisation focus on what matters.

**About the Role **

The Operations & Governance Lead ensures POW runs smoothly, efficiently, and sustainably through organized digital systems, reliable internal coordination, and good governance. This role supports the entire organization behind the scenes by keeping our structures, cross-role processes, compliance, and continuity running effectively.

This position is shared as a Role Pair. You will work closely with a co-lead—partnering closely with the POW Board—to share administrative tasks, oversee our tools, cover for each other during busy life periods, and alternate attending monthly leadership meetings. Together, you’ll help keep POW steady and focused on achieving its strategic goals.

Commitment & Context: This is a voluntary role with an expected commitment of about 3 to 5 hours per week.

**Key Responsibilities **

You will manage our back-end processes and help keep the organization organized. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate Board and core leadership meetings, keeping agendas focused and accurately documented.
  • Maintain and optimize internal digital systems, file storage, and team communication channels.
  • Support volunteer onboarding workflows in partnership with the Community & Alliances Lead.
  • Oversee administrative compliance, documentation, and not-for-profit requirements, in partnership with the POW Board.
  • Support basic financial tracking, budget oversight, and reporting systems.
  • Ensure operational continuity and knowledge preservation when leadership volunteers transition.
  • Maintain and update POW’s website, and oversee the day-to-day management of our online merchandise shop.

**About You **

We are looking for an organised, detail-oriented person who enjoys creating order and supporting teams from behind the scenes. Ideally, you bring:

Required: Strong organisational, administrative, and data management skills.

Required: High attention to detail, reliability, and respect for confidentiality.

Required: Experience managing cloud-based software, shared storage, or project management tools.

Required: Experience with website management, ideally with wordpress.

Required: Comfortable working productively behind the scenes to support our public-facing teams.

Required: A collaborative approach suited for a shared role pair dynamic.

Highly Desirable: Experience in operational administration or non-profit governance.

Highly Desirable: Familiarity with Australian not-for-profit compliance and financial tracking guidelines.

**Performance Goals **

Success means our day-to-day administrative tools are simple, reliable, and compliant. Your progress will track against:

  • Smooth, reliable, and efficient day-to-day organizational operations.
  • Clear, well-maintained internal systems and collaborative file structures.
  • A reliable meeting rhythm with clear documentation and action items.
  • An effective onboarding and digital tracking pipeline for new volunteers.
  • Adherence to all necessary compliance, governance, and reporting requirements.
  • Smooth, up-to-date website performance and a well-managed online shop.
