Company overview Founded in 1969 by a pioneering group of women, Lutheran Care has grown from grassroots beginnings into a respected, multi-faceted organisation. Our work has always been anchored in advocacy, equity and compassion—standing alongside people experiencing vulnerability, hardship and injustice.

Today, we continue that legacy by supporting individuals, families and communities who may otherwise fall through the cracks, while ensuring their voices are heard and their dignity upheld. Our work is grounded in the belief that every person deserves to feel seen, supported and valued.

Role Description

We are seeking two passionate, values driven and aligned individuals to join our committed Board of Directors, united by a shared purpose to strengthen community wellbeing and advance social justice.

This part-time Non Executive Board Member role is an on-site position based in the Greater Adelaide Area. The Board Member will participate in monthly board meetings, contributing to strategic planning, governance, and risk oversight for Lutheran Care. Beyond technical expertise, we are seeking people who bring sound judgement, strategic thinking, and a genuine alignment to purpose and values.

As a not-for-profit organisation, this is a voluntary Board role. However, it offers the opportunity to contribute your expertise and leadership to an organisation delivering significant and a lasting impact across South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Qualifications

  • Experience in governance and board-level responsibilities, including strategic planning, risk management, and policy oversight.
  • Financial literacy and business acumen, with the ability to interpret budgets, financial statements, and performance reports.
  • Background in community services, social work, health, housing, or related sectors, with an understanding of issues such as homelessness, family support, and domestic violence.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills, including the ability to engage constructively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, compassion, inclusion, and ethical practice, aligned with Lutheran Care’s mission and values.
  • AICD qualifications are desirable.
  • Capacity to attend on-site meetings in the Greater Adelaide Area and contribute consistently in a part-time governance role.
