About the Role The Community Reference Group Member plays a vital advisory role in ensuring Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) remains aligned with the needs of people living with macular disease, as well as their families and carers. Members provide guidance, insight, and feedback to inform MDFA’s programs, advocacy, and services. This is a values-driven volunteer position suited to individuals with lived experience or a strong connection to macular disease who are passionate about improving outcomes for the community. Members collaborate with MDFA’s Advocacy team, Executive Team, and Board by contributing perspectives that strengthen decision-making, community engagement, and impact. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence national advocacy priorities, improve support services, and contribute to initiatives that enhance early detection, awareness, and research. , Engagement Tasks

  • Share lived experience to inform MDFA programs, advocacy, and services
  • Contribute insights on early detection, awareness, and community education initiatives
  • Provide feedback on support services for people living with macular disease
  • Participate in discussions that shape advocacy priorities and community messaging
  • Raise and highlight community concerns and emerging issues
  • Attend and actively participate in quarterly meetings and consultations
  • Review materials and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold MDFA’s reputation and values
  • Collaborate respectfully with other members and MDFA staff

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Lived experience of macular disease or a strong connection as a family member or carer
  • Ability to contribute lived experience to inform MDFA’s work
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to active participation
  • Respectful, values-driven approach with integrity and accountability
  • Commitment to improving community outcomes
