Proceeds from LMA events support Kinds of Happiness (KOH), a registered charity dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth in regional and rural Australia through mentoring, farming programs, and skills development.

Our People & Culture (P&C) team is growing, and we are looking for a volunteer HR Generalist to help us build strong foundations for our volunteer workforce.

About the Role

As a Volunteer HR Generalist, you will support the P&C team with a broad range of human resources activities, helping LMA attract, onboard, and support the volunteers who make our markets and festivals possible. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone who enjoys working across the full HR function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support volunteer recruitment, including drafting position descriptions and advertisements
  • Commit to attend a weekly team meeting
  • Assist with screening, interviewing, and onboarding new volunteers
  • Help maintain HR documentation, trackers, and compliance records
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of P&C policies, guides, and processes
  • Support volunteer engagement and retention initiatives

Experience & Skills Required

Essential

  • Experience in an HR generalist, coordinator, or advisory role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound understanding of recruitment and onboarding processes
  • Ability to work independently and manage own time in a remote environment
  • Good attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Genuine interest in supporting a mission-driven, volunteer-based organisation

Desirable

  • Experience working in a not-for-profit or volunteer-based organisation
  • Formal HR qualification (e.g. Certificate IV, Diploma, or degree in HR or a related field)
  • Familiarity with volunteer management or engagement practices
  • Experience with HR systems, trackers, or documentation (e.g. Google Workspace, SEEK)
  • Experience supporting compliance processes (e.g. Working with Children Checks, police checks)
