Legal Research Volunteer (Transport)

Explore the legal questions that could shape the future of transport.

Get Around Caboolture is a community organisation working to create more transport choice so everyone can travel safely, independently and confidently, whether they walk, wheel, ride, catch public transport or drive.

We're looking for someone who enjoys legal research and exploring complex transport questions. If you're studying law, recently graduated, or simply enjoy researching legal issues, this is an opportunity to work on projects with real-world impact.

What you'll be doing

  • Researching and developing your own legal question relating to transport
  • Reviewing legislation, case law, government policies and academic literature
  • Comparing approaches used in Australia and overseas
  • Working with our team to develop your research into a formal legal document for a lawyer to showcase your work.

Research topics may include

  • Government responsibilities for providing transport options
  • Road safety and the legal duties of road authorities
  • Human rights and equitable access to transport
  • Constitutional and funding questions affecting transport investment
  • Planning law, transport law and public decision-making
  • Or something that really bugs you about our transport system

You might enjoy this role if you

  • Are studying law at university or have a legal background
  • Enjoy researching challenging legal questions
  • Like connecting legal principles with real-world issues
  • Want to build your research, writing and analysis skills
  • Would like to choose a legal question that genuinely interests you and develop it into a published article with support from a small team of legal volunteers and the founder.

What you'll gain

  • Experience researching emerging transport legal issues
  • Mentoring and group feedback throughout your project
  • The opportunity to publish legal article that you can include in your portfolio and résumé
  • Flexible volunteering that fits around your studies or work
  • The chance to contribute to projects that could influence future transport policy and create stronger communities

If you're curious, analytical and interested in using your legal skills to make a practical difference, we'd love to hear from you.
