About the opportunity

Primary Purpose of the Position

Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust is seeking a skilled volunteer to support the development of a community-led tourism model that creates sustainable economic opportunities while strengthening cultural identity and connection to Country. Responding to the decline of the local timber industry, LTAT has identified tourism as a priority sector with strong potential to generate income, employment, and positive cultural outcomes.

Working with LTAT, the advisor will undertake a feasibility assessment and develop a business plan for culturally appropriate tourism initiatives on Trust land. Opportunities to be explored may include cultural experiences, eco-tourism activities, accommodation options, and other tourism products that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Gunaikurnai people.

LTAT represents a significant Aboriginal community with deep cultural connections to Gunaikurnai Country in East Gippsland, Victoria. The Trust has a strong vision for community-led economic development grounded in cultural knowledge, environmental stewardship, and long-term sustainability. This assignment will help identify viable tourism opportunities and provide a practical pathway for creating a resilient local economy that supports cultural preservation, employment, and economic independence.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in tourism feasibility and business planning
  • Understanding of regional and nature-based tourism development
  • Experience working with First Nations communities
  • Strong financial modelling and strategic planning capability
  • Ability to work collaboratively in community-led environments
  • Knowledge of governance, compliance, and funding pathways

Role information:

  • Start August/September 2026
  • Approximately 10-14 weeks part time, flexible
  • Online/Remote + site visit
  • Victoria

  • 5 years professional experience in the relevant field
  • Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident residing in Australia.
  • Willingness to complete a National Police Check
