About the opportunity

Primary Purpose of the Position

Support the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust to determine the commercial viability of a culturally aligned Native Plant Nursery and Bush Foods Enterprise that will strengthen environmental restoration, cultural knowledge sharing, and sustainable economic development. The volunteer will undertake a feasibility study and develop a practical business case to assess market opportunities, operational requirements, financial viability, and pathways to implementation. Working closely with the Trust, the volunteer will help identify opportunities to grow the enterprise across native plants, bush foods, bush medicines, native herbs, cut flowers, and rehabilitation and landscaping plant supply, while supporting the Trust’s vision of creating employment, building community capability, promoting traditional knowledge, and contributing to long-term community self-determination.

Selection Criteria:

If you're excited about supporting sustainable economic development, environmental stewardship, and First Nations-led community outcomes, we encourage you to apply—even if you don't meet every selection criterion.

Demonstrated experience in:

Agribusiness, horticulture, or nursery operations (desirable)

Bush foods or native plant markets (desirable)

Commercial feasibility and business case development

Strong skills in:

Market research and analysis

Financial modelling

Strategic planning

Understanding of, or willingness to work within:

First Nations community contexts

Cultural knowledge systems and environmental stewardship

Small remote, rural communities

  • Approximately 3 months
  • Online/Remote + site visit
  • Victoria

  • 5 years professional experience in the relevant field
  • Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident residing in Australia.
  • Willingness to complete a National Police Check
