About Lifeline Connect

Lifeline Connect is a free, face-to-face service for anyone who needs support, for any reason. Our trained volunteers provide a friendly, non-judgemental listening ear and help people take the next step toward connecting with a service, group, club or referral agency.

Each Lifeline Connect shift is supported by a Volunteer Supporter, Volunteer Connector and Team Leader. Together, the team creates a safe, welcoming space where help seekers can feel heard, supported and connected.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Supporter, you will play an important role in listening to people’s stories and helping reduce distress through calm, respectful and compassionate conversation. You are not acting as a counsellor; your role is to listen, guide the conversation using your training, and be present for people who need someone to talk to.

After speaking with a help seeker, you will provide a warm handover to the Volunteer Connector, outlining possible next steps and areas of support that may be helpful.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide a confidential, supportive listening space for help seekers.

  • Use your training to guide conversations in a calm and respectful way.

  • Support people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences.

  • Work alongside Volunteer Connectors and Team Leaders during each shift.

  • Provide a warm handover with suggested areas for further support.

What We’re Looking For

  • A reliable, respectful team player who is willing to support people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Excellent communication and listening skills.

  • A caring, helpful and non-judgemental approach.

  • A willingness to learn new skills and complete required training.

  • Confidence working as part of a small team in a community setting.

  • Undertake a National Criminal History Check

  • Have a Working With Children Check (volunteer) or willingness to obtain.

Why Volunteer With Us?

By volunteering with Lifeline South Coast, you’ll help provide essential community support and ensure people do not have to face difficult moments alone. You’ll also become part of a friendly, supportive team making a real difference in the local community.

We can’t wait to meet you — apply today.
