Make a Difference Through Friendship – Visiting Volunteer Wanted in Thornbury

o you enjoy a good conversation, sharing a cuppa and making someone feel valued and heard?
We’re looking for a warm, patient and compassionate volunteer to visit a lovely older lady living in a residential aged care home in Thornbury.
Sometimes, the most meaningful thing you can give someone is your time, a listening ear and a friendly face to look forward to seeing. Your visits could brighten her week through a relaxed chat over tea or coffee, a gentle walk around the neighbourhood, or enjoying a creative hobby or art activity together.
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with older people, takes the time to build trust, and understands that a meaningful friendship grows through patience, kindness and consistency.
Do you speak Italian? That would be a wonderful bonus, but it’s certainly not essential. What matters most is your willingness to listen, share stories and build a genuine connection.
What's involved?
- Visiting weekly or fortnightly, depending on your availability.
- Committing to at least six months, with the hope of building a lasting friendship.
- Sharing conversation, interests and simple everyday activities.
What we offer?
- Training and a welcoming orientation.
- Ongoing guidance and support from the MiCare team.
- Travel reimbursement.
- Opportunities to connect with other visiting volunteers through meetings and shared experiences.
A little of your time could make a world of difference.
If you’re someone who believes in the power of companionship and would love to brighten an older person’s day, we’d love to hear from you!
