Background:
South Sudanese Health Matters Incorporated (SSHMI) is registered in Victoria as an incorporated association. It is also registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) as a Public Benevolent Institution and is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office with Deductible Gift Recipient status.
Established in 2018, SSHMI is a non-government, non-political and non-profit organisation headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, that aims to improve access to healthcare services and related education for people in the Lou Ariik Village and surrounding communities of South Sudan. Key initiatives include the implementation of sustainable healthcare, health education programs, facilitating local workforce training and building capacity to deliver health services.
The formation of this NGO was inspired and driven by our CEO, Mawien Ariik who was born and raised in the village of Lou Ariik, South Sudan.
objectives of the role
The objectives of the role are to maximise our social impact by:
- Promoting awareness of SSHMI’s mission and work.
- Increasing SSHMI’s visibility and reach to new audiences.
- Directly driving donations through integrated donation tools, fundraising campaigns, and links to donation pages.
- Building trust and transparency by sharing stories of beneficiaries, project updates, and measurable outcomes.
- Mobilising our volunteers and advocacy by highlighting volunteer opportunities, campaigns, and community initiatives.
- Forming strong relationships with external stakeholders.
- Ensuring major donors are informed of the operations of SSHMI and the positive impact of their donations.
key tasks and responsibilities:
The key tasks and responsibilities of this role include:
- Monitoring inbox messages and comments across all key channels: Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Replying to messages promptly using SSHMI’s tone and brand guidelines.
- Interacting with followers through likes, replies, shares, and thoughtful comments.
- Identify opportunities to turn engagement into action (e.g., suggesting sponsorship, sharing donation links, or inviting people to learn more).
- Flagging sensitive or complex enquiries to the appropriate SSHMI staff member.
- Maintaining confidentiality and child protection principles at all times.
- Providing a short weekly update on common questions, trends, or opportunities observed.
preferred skills and qualifications:
SSHMI is seeking a person who is able to work independently, following written instructions and brand guidelines. Additionally, this person should have the following:
- Passion for the Mission: A deep commitment to SSHMI’s mission and values.
- Experience: Social media savvy and comfortable using multiple platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Organisational Skills: Strong organisational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a diverse range of individuals.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changing needs and work in a dynamic environment.
- Experience working in a small charity would be an advantage.
