Position: Volunteer Social Support/Activity Assistant

Location: Volunteer at one of 70+ service locations across Sydney

About the Role

Are you passionate about bringing joy and connection to older Australians? As a Uniting Volunteer Social Support/Activity Assistant, you’ll help enrich residents’ lives through social, creative, and recreational activities, fostering community, wellbeing, and fun within our aged care home.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will work alongside staff and fellow volunteers to deliver engaging activities, such as:

• Social Support – Offer companionship and connection.
• Bingo – Call out numbers and celebrate wins.
• Music – Sing, play an instrument, or enjoy music together.
• Knitting & Crafts – Support creative projects.
• Card & Board Games – Encourage fun and friendly competition.

We’d also love to hear about your interests and talents.

Activities are driven by resident interests and vary between homes.

Other key tasks include:

• Setting up and packing down activity spaces.
• Encouraging residents to participate.
• Helping create a warm and inclusive atmosphere.

Your time and enthusiasm can make a real difference—join us in bringing smiles and meaningful moments to our residents.

Volunteer characteristics we are looking for:

• Aligned to Uniting’s values: Compassionate, Respectful, Imaginative, Bold.
• Flexible availability and a minimum 6‑month commitment for relationship-based roles.
• Reliable, punctual and able to communicate if circumstances change.
• Willingness to complete Uniting’s induction and training.
• Willingness to undergo required background checks, including a National Police Check, reference checks, and role-specific checks such as a Working With Children Check.
• Person-centred with strong communication skills.
