Dying Differently is a community organisation that encourages open conversations about death, dying and end-of-life planning. Through community events, education and collaboration with professionals and community organisations, Dying Differently aims to help people make informed choices, reduce uncertainty and feel more prepared for the future.

The West Talks Death is a free community expo bringing together speakers and exhibitors to share practical information on topics including end-of-life planning, wills and powers of attorney, palliative care, organ donation, funeral options, digital legacy, and community support services.

Position description:

Dying Differently is seeking friendly and reliable Event Support Volunteers to assist with The West Talks Death Expo.

Volunteers may support with one or more of the following activities:

  • Welcoming attendees and assisting with registration.
  • Greeting visitors and directing them to presentation rooms and exhibitor spaces.
  • Assisting exhibitors and presenters as required.
  • Helping answer general questions and providing event information.
  • Assisting with room set-up, refreshments and pack-up.
  • Helping create a welcoming and positive experience for all attendees.

Skills and qualities required:

  • Friendly and approachable.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Comfortable interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Able to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Previous event experience is welcome but not required.

  • Maribyrnong Community Centre
  • 9 Randall Street, Maribyrnong VIC

Time and commitment requirement:

  • One-off volunteer opportunity
  • Saturday, 8 August 2026
  • Approximately from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, including a short volunteer briefing before the event.
  • The full five hours are preferred; however, flexible shifts of two to three hours may be available for people who are unable to attend for the whole event.
