Volunteer Bookkeeper

The Flannel Project

Help keep the heart of our charity beating.

The Flannel Project is a registered Australian charity supporting veterans, first responders, and those who love them after suicide. We believe that postvention is prevention—that by supporting those left behind, we can reduce future tragedy and create pathways to hope and healing.

As we enter an exciting new chapter, we're expanding our programs to include equine-assisted wellbeing experiences, peer connection, remembrance initiatives, education, and practical support for those navigating life after suicide loss.

We're looking for a volunteer bookkeeper who would love to use their skills to make a genuine difference behind the scenes.

What you'll do

  • Maintain our Xero bookkeeping records.
  • Reconcile bank accounts.
  • Process invoices and reimbursements when required.
  • Assist the Treasurer with financial reporting.
  • Help ensure our financial records are accurate and compliant.
  • Support the Board with good financial governance.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has bookkeeping or accounting experience.
  • Is confident using Xero (preferred).
  • Is organised, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Enjoys working as part of a friendly volunteer team.
  • Believes in using their skills to support a meaningful cause.

Veterans, current or former first responders, retirees and people wanting to give back to their community are warmly encouraged to apply.

Why volunteer with us?

Every donation, every grant and every dollar entrusted to The Flannel Project represents hope for someone navigating one of life's most difficult journeys.

By helping us keep our finances organised, you'll allow our Board and volunteers to focus on what matters most—supporting veterans, first responders, and the people who love them after suicide.

You'll be joining a passionate team helping shape an exciting new chapter for The Flannel Project, where compassion, integrity and good governance go hand in hand.

Time commitment

Approximately 2–4 hours per month, with flexible hours and remote work available.

How to apply

Please send us your resume and a short introduction telling us a little about yourself, your bookkeeping experience, and why you'd like to be part of The Flannel Project.

Together, we can help ensure that no veteran, first responder, family member or friend has to face the aftermath of suicide alone.
