Join the Story Squad!
Love reading to children? As a Story Squad volunteer, you'll visit preschools, kindergartens, playgroups, festivals and community events to bring books to life through fun, engaging read-aloud sessions. It's a simple way to inspire a lifelong love of literacy and make a meaningful difference in your local community.

Reading Out of Poverty (ROOP) is a registered Australian charity dedicated to transforming children's lives through the power of literacy, one book at a time. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow up surrounded by books, regardless of their family's circumstances.

Working with preschools, kindergartens, maternal and child health services, community organisations and other frontline services, ROOP provides free, high-quality books and literacy resources to children aged 0–5 living in disadvantaged communities. Through our programs, we help families build a love of reading from birth, supporting children's language development, school readiness and lifelong learning.

By joining the Story Squad, you'll play an important role in inspiring young children through the simple magic of reading aloud. Every story you share helps create positive reading experiences that can last a lifetime. Together, we can ensure every child has the opportunity to discover the joy of books
