Disaster Recovery Spontaneous Volunteer Coordinator

The Disaster Recovery Spontaneous Volunteer Coordinator will have oversight of and manage relief activities during a disaster event, on behalf of Volunteering Sunshine Coast (VSC), in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Council. The role includes pre-event planning of the Disaster Recovery Spontaneous Volunteer program and coordination of the spontaneous volunteer Team Leaders and their volunteers, who are activated in the recovery phase of a disaster event. VSC has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sunshine Coast Council to undertake recovery-phase activities, including coordinating volunteers to help homeowners and tenants clean up disaster-impacted areas, and supporting disaster relief activities such as evacuation centres and recovery hubs. In a major event, Council will request activation of the Disaster Recovery Spontaneous Volunteers, including calling for volunteers registered on the Volunteering Queensland CREW database and activating VSC's Spontaneous Volunteer Team Leaders to supervise registration and volunteer work. The Coordinator oversees the Spontaneous Volunteer processes and Team Leaders during an event, and provides briefings and communications between VSC and Council's Disaster Recovery team. The Coordinator is supported by a number of Team Leaders already in place and a Spontaneous Volunteer Program planning sub-group. Although the Program and MOU with Council have been in place for a number of years, they are yet to be activated and tested in an event. The role is at a stage where it needs review and refinement, including identifying gaps and future needs, and progressing Team Leader and stakeholder engagement. Council and the planning sub-group will support the Coordinator in these activities. Preferred (not essential): experience and/or knowledge of disaster planning and volunteer management.
