Built in 1919, Falie is now 107 years old. She arrived in South Australia in 1922 and has provided 104 years of service in this state. During the Second World War, she also served with the Royal Australian Navy as HMAS Falie, adding an important chapter of wartime service to her extraordinary history.

Historic Ketch Falie Inc. is seeking volunteers who genuinely want to contribute their time, skills, ideas and energy to help preserve Falie’s history and support her future.

Current and potential volunteer roles include:

  • Documentary project support for Quiet Ships, Quiet Men
  • Historical and archival research
  • Education and children’s program support
  • Community event assistance
  • Onboard crew and maritime activities
  • Fundraising and donor engagement
  • Sponsorship and partnership development
  • Grant research and application support
  • Administration and record keeping
  • Marketing, publicity and media
  • Social media and content creation
  • Photography, video and graphic design
  • Volunteer recruitment and coordination
  • Project management
  • Information technology and digital support
  • General practical assistance at events and activities

You do not need maritime experience, specialist qualifications or unlimited free time. We welcome people from a wide range of backgrounds who are willing to share their knowledge, learn new skills and contribute at a level they can realistically maintain.

What matters most is reliability.

We are looking for people who are honest about what they can commit to, who communicate clearly and who follow through when they say they will help. A small but dependable contribution is far more valuable than a large promise that never becomes action.

This does not mean you need to be confident from the beginning. We warmly welcome people who may be quiet, cautious or uncertain about where they might fit. Support and guidance can be provided, and there are roles suitable for different interests, abilities and levels of availability.

Falie is not simply remembered—she is carried forward by the people who care about her.

When you join the Falie Crew, you become part of a living legacy. Every committed volunteer, supporter and community member helps preserve her history, share her story and ensure that this remarkable 107-year-old vessel remains part of South Australia’s maritime heritage for generations to come.

If you are ready to contribute, follow through and make a genuine difference, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
