About the organisation Street Side Medics is a not-for-profit, GP-led mobile medical service for people experiencing homelessness. Our vision is to ensure that all vulnerable individuals requiring healthcare can access it effortlessly, with dignity and respect.
At Street Side Medics make long term commitments to the communities in which we work. By teaming up with local community partners, and delivering our clinics from the same place, at the same time, on the same day, each week, we’re able to build lasting relationships and ensure continuity of care.
The team on the ground each week are all volunteers and include GPs, other medical practitioners, registered and enrolled nurses, allied health professionals and other non-medical volunteers that may come from a variety of professional backgrounds. The clinics operate from vans with full medical fit outs, and work in conjunction with other homeless services 6 days a week at 16 locations across NSW, VIC and ACT.
About the opportunity
We are recruiting Medical Practitioners (PGY3+) to join the Street Side Medics Clinic team in Lalor Park. The clinic operates weekly on a Tuesday evening from 6.30pm - 8.30pm alongside other community services. While the clinic operates weekly, we just ask that you be available for approximately one shift a month. Volunteers are asked to make an ongoing commitment to this role.
You will volunteer as a Medical Support Officer (MSO). The key objective of the MSO is to support the GP on roster by distributing the workload of the medical team and allowing for the smooth running of the clinic. Your role will include completing the initial assessment of a patient who has requested to see a doctor. MSO’s consult with patients on their medical history and any medications and responsibilities may include pathology and phlebotomy. This role may include passing the patient onto a GP or completing the consult after initial consultation if within your scope.
