About Us

Dogs Canberra is a growing Canberra charity using the companionship of dogs to improve mental health and strengthen community connections. Through programs including our Community Walking Program, wellbeing events, and assorted support initiatives, we're creating opportunities for both people and dogs to thrive.

As our organisation continues to grow, we're looking for a Social Media Officer – Content Creator to join our team and help share the stories behind our work. This is an opportunity to use your creativity to make a genuine impact while helping raise awareness of our programs, volunteers and the incredible dogs at the heart of our organisation.

Position and Responsibilities

We're looking for a motivated and creative Social Media Officer – Content Creator to help grow Dogs Canberra's online presence through engaging content and storytelling. Working closely with the Director (Marketing), Community Manager and Marketing Team, you'll help showcase the impact of our work while strengthening community engagement and supporting the growth of our organisation.

Key responsibilities include (full Position Description available on request):

Content Creation:

  • Create engaging social media content that reflects the Dogs Canberra brand and values.
  • Design graphics and promotional materials using Canva (or similar software).

Content Management:

  • Organise and maintain a shared library of photos, videos and design assets.
  • Help maintain a consistent pipeline of content for upcoming campaigns and events.

Community Engagement:

  • Promote community events, fundraising campaigns and volunteer opportunities.
  • Attend community events where possible to capture content and represent Dogs Canberra.

There is also the opportunity to become involved in other aspects of the organisation, whether on the ground in Canberra or remotely.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys using their creativity to support a meaningful cause.

Experience in social media, content creation, photography, videography, graphic design or marketing is highly desirable. Previous experience within the not-for-profit sector is welcomed but not essential. We're equally interested in applicants with relevant tertiary qualifications, a strong portfolio, or a genuine passion for creating engaging content.

You'll be someone who communicates well, enjoys working collaboratively, and has a creative eye for capturing the stories that make Dogs Canberra unique.

On average, we expect this position will require around 2–10 hours per week, although this may vary depending on upcoming events, campaigns and organisational priorities.

While some preference is given to applicants located within the ACT due to content capture at community events, this position also offers flexibility for aspects of the role to be completed remotely.

Why Volunteer With Us?

  • Help tell the story of a growing Canberra charity.
  • Use your creativity to create meaningful community impact.
  • Build your portfolio and gain practical experience in social media and content creation.
  • Work alongside a passionate, supportive and collaborative volunteer team.

  • Make a direct difference to people's wellbeing through the human-animal bond.
