Overview

The ParkCare Volunteer Program supports the ACT Parks and Conservation Service (PCS) by engaging a team of dedicated VisitorAssist volunteers, who provide exceptional support and guidance to the public. Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Namadgi National Park are filled with a diverse array of natural ecosystems, unique wilderness experiences, diverse range of native wildlife and rich European and indigenous cultural heritage. Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Namadgi National Park are dense with activities, walking tracks and heritage sites with many members of the public needing support guiding them to the perfect activity for their experience in the reserve and national park.

Role Description

As a VisitorAssist Volunteer, you will work closely with the Visitor Centre teams to welcome and orient visitors to the reserve and national park, providing general information about their features, recommending walking tracks, hikes, and cultural heritage sites that best match their interests, and educating visitors on the values of our parks and reserves.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visitor Engagement: Welcome visitors to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Namadgi National Park, provide information about the reserve’s natural and cultural assets, and guide them in selecting walks, hikes, and areas of interest that match their preferences.
  • Orientation and Information: Assist with orienting visitors, ensuring they have up-to-date details on safety, reserve conditions, and recommended activities.
  • Support Visitor Centre Staff: Work alongside staff to provide quality service to visitors, ensuring a positive and informative experience.
  • Education and Interpretation: Help visitors understand the park’s unique biodiversity, cultural heritage, and conservation values, fostering a deeper appreciation for Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Namadgi National Park.
  • Record Keeping and Feedback: Track volunteer hours and provide feedback to the ParkCare team via the ParkCare communications portal (ParkCare Hub).
  • Support Lifelong Learning: Opportunity to help, support or run free school holiday NaturePlay activities for children, encouraging curiosity. life-long learning and a love for our environment.
  • Community Engagement Events: Attend community events and information stalls to provide information on Tidbinbilla, Namadgi National Park and volunteering, including Tharwa Bush Fair, Tidbinbilla Open Day, Rock Valley Picnic (Heritage Festival) and more.
