About Dokka Community

Dokka Community Inc. is a community-based not-for-profit organisation delivering practical health education, healthy eating promotion, food literacy and wellbeing activities for local communities.

We work with community venues and local partners to make reliable health information easier to understand and apply in everyday life.

We are building a volunteer content team to support our Instagram, LinkedIn and website communications.

About the Role

We are looking for volunteers with an Australian qualification in nutrition, dietetics, pharmacy or public health to create clear, evidence-based health content for a general community audience.

The main responsibility is to prepare at least one complete health education article each month.

Articles should generally be between 300 and 600 words and may be adapted for:

  • Instagram educational posts
  • LinkedIn content
  • Website articles
  • Community education resources
  • Health promotion campaigns
  • Future Dokka Community publications

Volunteers may suggest topics related to their interests or professional background. Dokka Community can also provide topic ideas and content direction.

Potential topics include healthy eating, food labels, weight management, healthy ageing, medication safety, food safety, chronic disease prevention and community wellbeing.

What You Will Do

  • Research and write at least one evidence-based article each month
  • Explain health information clearly for a general community audience
  • Use reliable sources and provide appropriate references
  • Fact-check information before submission
  • Respond to reasonable editorial or professional feedback
  • Avoid individual medical advice and unsupported health claims
  • Maintain regular communication with the Dokka Community team

Articles are generally due by the first day of each month. The first submission date will be confirmed after induction.

Volunteers are welcome to contribute additional articles, but this is optional.

Optional Social Media Opportunities

Volunteers who are interested may also support:

  • Instagram carousel design
  • LinkedIn content adaptation
  • Canva graphics
  • Social media captions and publishing
  • Event promotion
  • Community stories
  • Event photography
  • Short videos or Reels

Please indicate any areas of interest in your application.

Review and Publication

All content will be reviewed and approved by Dokka Community before publication.

Approved articles may be published through Dokka Community’s Instagram, LinkedIn, website, education materials or future campaigns.

Selected high-quality articles may also be edited and included in a future digital Dokka Community Health Magazine, with contributor acknowledgement where appropriate.

Responsible Content Expectations

All submitted work must be original, evidence-based and fact-checked.

AI tools may be used for limited assistance with grammar, structure or readability, but volunteers remain responsible for the accuracy, authenticity and references in their work.

Fabricated information, false references, plagiarism, misleading health claims or unverified AI-generated content will not be accepted. Repeated significant concerns may result in the volunteer arrangement being ended.

Volunteers are expected to maintain regular communication. Where a volunteer does not contribute for two consecutive months without communicating a reasonable reason or requesting a temporary pause, Dokka Community may review and end the arrangement.

What You Will Gain

  • Published health communication experience
  • Professional portfolio content
  • Practical knowledge translation skills
  • Editorial and professional feedback
  • Experience writing for community audiences
  • Optional Instagram, LinkedIn and Canva experience
  • Contributor acknowledgement for selected publications

Volunteers who contribute consistently may also be eligible for a volunteer service certificate, a record of published work and reference support based on the duration and quality of their contribution.

This is an unpaid volunteer position. All official Dokka Community content must be approved before publication.
