GRAI is seeking a volunteer visitor for an older man in residential aged care. Our service recipient has some communication challenges so the ideal person would be patient and compassionate. Our recipient likes football (Dockers), car and horse/dog racing and fishing.
The Volunteer visitor aims to improve quality of life for the service recipient by: • promoting wellbeing and maintaining independence • a sense of connectedness to community, culture and identity • reduced feelings of loneliness and isolation; and • reduced feelings of depression and anxiety.
The time together may be spent together in a variety of ways, dependent on the care recipients’ interest and capacity.
The volunteer needs to bring their friendly, caring and compassionate self, a willingness to listen and an interest in connecting with an older LGBTI person.
