What is the Ponytail Project?

The Ponytail Project is a community-led initiative where people cut, colour or style their hair to raise funds for cancer research and show support for those impacted by cancer.

With 1 in 2 Australians diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85, almost every community has been touched by cancer in some way. The Ponytail Project creates an opportunity to bring people together, start important conversations and support a cause that affects so many families.

Thousands of people across Australia have already taken part. Now we're inviting Victorian community groups to get involved.

What you'll do as a Ponytail Ambassador:

-Bring the Ponytail Project to your community group or organisation -Organise a simple community event where participants cut, colour or style their hair -Invite your community to come together, share stories and show support -Raise awareness and funds for cancer research

What could this look like?

-A cricket, football or netball club hosting a Ponytail Project chop day -A local library running a community awareness event -A community organisation bringing members together for a fundraising activity

Why get involved?

-Create stronger connections within your community -Support people affected by cancer in a meaningful way -Start important conversations about cancer and its impact -Be part of a movement your community can rally behind -Make a real difference with a simple, visible activity

You won't be doing it alone

Most groups get started with less than 3 hours of planning.

Cancer Council Victoria will provide:

-A step-by-step guide -Ready-made promotional resources -Fundraising tools and support -Dedicated support from the Cancer Council team

All you need to do is:
