Hobsons Bay Girl Guides District Manager
As District Manager with Girl Guides, you support and manage guiding in your community. In Girl Guides, youth members meet in units that are run by volunteer Unit Leaders and Unit Helpers. All the units in a council area form a District, and the District Manager is responsible for guiding in the District, with one or more deputies to assist. This includes managing volunteers, building partnerships within the community, ensuring policy and risk management is followed, solving problems, liaising with parents and other community organisations, recruiting youth members and volunteers and representing girl guides in the community.
In Hobsons Bay, we have a great team of volunteers running Altona Girl Guides, but they need a manager to support them. This involves helping them problem solve issues that come up, communicating with parents and with other areas of girl guiding, property management of the guide hall, overseeing fundraising and ensuring our Unit Leaders are supported to run great programs in line with policies and legal requirements.
The role of District Manager involves chairing monthly meetings, handling administration and volunteer management via phone and emails, participating in ceremonies, visiting unit meetings and activities and promoting guiding, according to the interests of the volunteer and the needs in the area. There is a strong support team in the Region to provide advice and assistance in finding any information or solving any problems.
No previous experience of girl guides is necessary. This role is great for a volunteer who wants to support girl guides but doesn't want to work directly with girls or make a weekly commitment to unit meetings. The role can be time flexible and most of it can be done on your schedule.
As Hobson's Bay is a growing area for Girl Guides, there will be lots of opportunities to get involved in community development and public relations activities to support membership growth.
