Content Strategy & Calendar Coordinator
Advertised by Volunteering Sunshine Coast
About the Role:
SCS is looking for a content strategist and coordinator to develop and execute a dedicated content strategy and marketing calendar for SCS's flagship Sports Award initiatives in 2026–27. The Annual Awards, now in their 56th year, are one of the most significant nights on the Sunshine Coast sporting calendar. This is a hands-on role that spans strategy and execution. You'll help develop the strategic approach, plan their respective calendars, write the copy, coordinate across channels, and keep communications timely, consistent, and on-message.
The role sits directly within the Connection & Partnership pillar of the SCS strategy, supporting the organisation's goal of being a trusted, well-connected regional voice for community sport.
About Sunshine Coast Sports Annual Awards:
The Sunshine Coast Sports Annual Awards celebrate outstanding achievement across athletes, teams, coaches, clubs, officials, volunteers, and sporting events. The 56th Awards will be held in November or December of 2026. The Awards have their own distinct content strategy running from early to mid-2026 through to post-event coverage, spanning the nominations campaign, category announcements, sponsor recognition, finalist reveals, the event itself, and post-night wrap. The baseline output is 1–2 posts per week, increasing to 3–4 per week across the Awards month. It is estimated to allow up to 5 hours per week in the build-up to the event, and 5-10 hours per week during the event month, plus attendance at the event. Much of the work will entail refreshing existing assets and creating new assets in Canva that can be used across multiple marketing channels.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Strategy Development
· Develop a dedicated content strategy, with defined campaign phases, key messages, audience considerations, and channel approach.
· Build and maintain a content calendar for the Sports Awards
Copywriting & Content Production
· Refresh and Draft channel copy: social captions, EDMs, and website copy.
· Use of Canva to coordinate the refreshing and production of social tiles and visual assets for multiple channels, working with a designer where applicable.

Campaign Execution & Coordination
· Schedule and publish content across SCS's social channels (LinkedIn and Meta) and EDM platform.
· Coordinate with internal stakeholders and board members for approvals, accurate information and timely sign-off.
· Support the drafting of media releases and media briefs for key moments across the Awards (e.g., nominations, finalists and night-of outcomes).
Monitoring & Reporting
· Monitor engagement across social and EDM, responding to comments or escalating where needed.
· Provide a brief performance post-Awards review, informing the next phase of activity.
Skills & Experience:
· Demonstrated experience in content strategy, social media coordination, or marketing communications — ideally in a community, sport or not-for-profit context.
· Design experience with platforms such as Canva is highly valued
· Strong copywriting skills across social, email and web formats.
· Comfortable working to campaign deadlines.
· Strong familiarity with social media scheduling tools and EDM platforms (e.g. Mailchimp or similar).
· Experience drafting or supporting media releases is an advantage.
· Genuine enthusiasm for grassroots and community sport on the Sunshine Coast.
Overarching Content Strategy Brief:
The Awards strategy spans two phases: a long nominations campaign and sponsorship from August to October, and an intensive burst from October to December. The nominations and sponsorship phase needs to sustain interest over three to four months without burning out the audience — the approach is category spotlights, which give each week a specific focus (Volunteer of the Year, Junior Athlete, Club of the Year, etc.) and make nominations feel personal and relevant. Urgency builds in October as the deadline approaches.
November is a high-energy month. Finalists are announced, spotlighted individually, and the event itself becomes a content moment in its own right — pre-event build-up, night-of coverage, and a post-event wrap that extends the life of the story. The Awards have a naturally celebratory, high-profile tone. This is the most visible thing SCS does each year, and the content should match that.
Key messages: nominate the people who deserve recognition; community sport on the Sunshine Coast is worth celebrating; these are your finalists; these are your winners. Channel mix includes Facebook, Instagram, and EDM, with media releases timed to the opening of nominations, finalist announcements, and the event night.
