Speak Mandarin? Share a Chat, Music & a Garden Stroll With a New Friend

Narre Warren North | Volunteer Visitor | 18+

Do you speak Mandarin and enjoy a good conversation?

A gentle older lady living in an aged care home in Narre Warren North would love to have a regular Mandarin-speaking visitor โ€” someone who can share a chat, enjoy some music and spend a little time together.

She has few regular visitors and would particularly enjoy having someone to speak Mandarin with. She loves Chinese television, traditional Chinese music and being outdoors, especially peaceful strolls through the gardens in her princess chair. ๐ŸŒธ

You don't need to plan anything elaborate. Sometimes the best visits are simply about sitting together, chatting in Mandarin, listening to familiar music or enjoying the garden.

๐Ÿ’™ What could you do together?

๐ŸŒธ Enjoy a peaceful stroll through the gardens
๐ŸŽต Listen to traditional Chinese music
๐Ÿ“บ Watch Chinese television
๐Ÿ’ฌ Have a relaxed conversation in Mandarin
๐Ÿ˜Š Share stories, laughter and everyday moments

We're looking for someone who:

  • Speaks conversational Mandarin
  • Is aged 18 or over
  • โค๏ธ Is warm, patient and friendly
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Enjoys talking and listening
  • ๐Ÿค Is reliable and happy to build a genuine friendship
  • โฐ Can visit for around one hour each fortnight โ€” more often if you'd like

You don't need volunteering or aged care experience.

Ageing with Grace provides training, a police check and ongoing support. Your role isn't to provide personal care โ€” it's simply to be a friendly visitor and companion.

You might be a Mandarin speaker yourself, have family connections to Chinese culture, or simply enjoy speaking the language and meeting new people.

One conversation in a familiar language can make someone feel understood, connected and remembered. โค๏ธ
