About Heroes of Today

Heroes of Today is a registered Victorian charity dedicated to reducing loneliness, isolation and poor mental health through genuine connection and community.

Our Cooking, Creation & Conversation (CCC) program is a weekly face-to-face group for homeschooled teenagers aged 12–18. Each week, young people come together to cook a shared lunch, learn practical life skills, enjoy creative activities, play games and build lasting friendships in a safe, welcoming environment.

Many homeschooled teenagers have limited opportunities to connect with peers their own age. CCC gives them somewhere they can relax, have fun, learn new skills and simply enjoy being teenagers.

About the Volunteer Role

As a CCC Volunteer, you'll help create a positive and welcoming environment where every young person feels included and valued.

Your role may include:

• Welcoming young people as they arrive.
• Assisting with cooking and meal preparation.
• Joining in games, creative activities and group discussions.
• Encouraging friendships and helping everyone feel included.
• Supporting our Community Host throughout the day.
• Helping set up and pack down equipment.
• Assisting with general supervision and ensuring activities run smoothly.
• Occasionally helping with administration or special events.

You won't be expected to lead the group—we'll provide guidance and support. Your most important job is simply being a friendly, encouraging adult who enjoys spending time with young people.

Skills and Experience

No formal qualifications are required.

We're looking for volunteers who are:

• Friendly, patient and approachable.
• Reliable and committed.
• Comfortable interacting with teenagers.
• Positive, encouraging and supportive.
• Able to work as part of a team.
• Happy to join in activities and have fun.

Experience with young people, homeschooling, youth work, education or community groups is welcomed but not essential.

How to Apply

Successful applicants will be required to:

• Complete a short interview.
• Hold (or be willing to obtain) a valid Working with Children Check.
• Complete Heroes of Today's volunteer induction.
• Agree to our Child Safe, Code of Conduct and organisational policies.
