Volunteer Counsellor – Community Care Beenleigh Districts Inc.

Community Care Beenleigh Districts Inc. (CCBD) is seeking a suitably qualified Volunteer Counsellor to join our community counselling service in Beenleigh.

This opportunity may particularly suit someone who has recently completed a Bachelor or Master of Counselling (or equivalent recognised qualification), is registered with ACA or PACFA, and is looking to build further post-qualification counselling experience.

Applicants should have previous experience working directly with clients through employment, supervised placement or another appropriate counselling setting. This is not a student placement.

About the role

The Volunteer Counsellor will provide counselling to adult clients presenting with a range of personal, relationship and psychosocial concerns.

Key duties include:

  • Providing individual counselling to adult clients.
  • Undertaking appropriate assessment, goal setting and counselling interventions.
  • Maintaining professional and timely case notes and client records.
  • Identifying and responding appropriately to risk and making referrals where required.
  • Working within CCBD policies relating to confidentiality, privacy, informed consent, professional boundaries and client safety.
  • Participating in clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Working collaboratively with the CCBD Manager and team.

Skills and experience

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has completed a Bachelor or Master-level counselling qualification or equivalent.
  • Holds current registration with ACA or PACFA.
  • Has previous supervised experience providing counselling directly to clients.
  • Demonstrates sound counselling, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understands professional boundaries, confidentiality, informed consent and ethical practice.
  • Can work independently within their level of competence and seek support when required.
  • Is reliable, professional and able to make a regular commitment to the service.
  • Can maintain appropriate clinical documentation and case notes.

  • Build post-qualification face-to-face counselling experience.
  • Work with a diverse adult client group and range of presenting concerns.

  • Maintain a documented record of counselling practice and supervision hours that may assist with professional development and registration requirements, subject to ACA, PACFA or other relevant professional body requirements.
  • Develop experience in assessment, counselling interventions, referrals and professional documentation.
  • Strengthen your professional CV and demonstrate recent counselling experience when applying for future positions.
  • Make a meaningful contribution to the Beenleigh community.
