Community Care Beenleigh Districts Inc. (CCBD) is seeking a friendly, reliable and community-minded NILS Volunteer to support our No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) service in Beenleigh.
This opportunity may suit someone with experience in community services, administration, customer service or finance, or someone looking to gain practical experience in the community services sector.
Previous NILS experience is not required. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
About the role
NILS provides safe, affordable no-interest loans to eligible people on low incomes for approved essential goods and services.
Working alongside our experienced microfinance team, the volunteer will assist clients through the NILS application process.
Key duties include:
- Welcoming clients and explaining the NILS application process.
- Assisting clients to understand eligibility and documentation requirements.
- Supporting clients to complete applications.
- Reviewing identification, Centrelink information, bank statements, income details, quotes and other supporting documents.
- Assisting with basic household income and expenditure information.
- Entering and maintaining information within NILS systems and client records.
- Contacting clients when additional information is required.
- Providing information and referrals to other community services where appropriate.
- Maintaining privacy, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Following Good Shepherd NILS guidelines and CCBD policies and procedures.
Skills and experience
We are looking for someone who:
- Enjoys working with people and has a respectful, non-judgemental approach.
- Has good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Has basic computer and administrative skills and is willing to learn new systems.
- Is comfortable working with basic financial information and documentation.
- Has good attention to detail and can follow established procedures.
- Can work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
- Is reliable, patient and able to make a regular commitment.
Experience in community services, administration, customer service, banking or finance would be helpful but is not essential. Relevant screening and referee checks will apply.

NILS is a no-interest loan program, not financial counselling. Volunteers work within NILS guidelines and do not provide financial advice or financial counselling.
