Women's Walk Leader

The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is promoting this opportunity on behalf of The Y.
We are seeking walk leaders for 3 different routes around Boroondara:
- Studley Park, Kew
- Loop starting from Boroondara Sports Complex cafe in Balwyn North
- Loop starting from Ashburton Pool and Rec Centre cafe, towards Gardiners Creek/Anniversary trail
Role overview:
- Lead a schedule of 1 x weekly 45-90+ min walk (September 21- December 04, 2026) building up to 10kms.
- Provide leadership for Walk Volunteers who may attend walks throughout the period.
- Receive registration lists of participants prior to each walk and ensure specific/relevant pre-walk communication occurs (ie in the instance if a walk is called off).
- Ensure everyone who turns up has registered for the walk. If someone has not registered, ask them to complete the registration by their phone.
- Provide an environment that is welcoming and inclusive.
- Provide a quick walk induction at the start of each walk so participants know what to expect, including the pace of the walk and what to do if a participant is unable to keep up (this information will be provided to the leader).
- Monitor participants during the walk to support them to complete.
- Ensure all participants have concluded the walk before leaving.
- Collect informal feedback during the walk that may be of value in continually improving the experience.
Relevant Qualifications/Checks:
- First aid certification/or a willingness to undertake (cost will be covered).
- Police Check (cost will be covered).
- Working with Children check.
Key skills/attributes:
- Have a positive, friendly attitude and willingness to engage with people from diverse backgrounds
- Have a passion for walking and be physically able to undertake the schedule of walks
- Have an interest in empowering people and an empathy for personal challenges
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skill
- Be available to assist the administrative requirements for the period of the challenge.

Walk Leaders will be required to view an induction video with information on the challenge, routes, participants and facilitating welcoming and inclusive environments. This ensures that Walk Leaders have the knowledge and skills to provide information and assistance to participants. You will be required provide your own transport to and from locations. Note that public transport may not be easily accessible at some locations.
