Volunteer Instructor / Adult Staff Member — TS Albury Navy Cadets

Supported by the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Navy Cadets (ANC) is a leading youth development organisation with around 2,600 cadets across more than 80 Training Ships nationwide. Open to young Australians aged 13–18 of all genders and abilities, ANC gives cadets the chance to build self-confidence, leadership and teamwork through a range of maritime-themed activities on land and water — from sailing and power boating to seamanship, navigation and adventure training.

TS Albury is our local Training Ship, giving young people in the Albury-Wodonga region the opportunity to be part of this program.

About the Role

We're looking for enthusiastic adult volunteers to join the team at TS Albury and help deliver a safe, fun and rewarding program for our cadets. No previous military or Cadet experience is needed — full training is provided once you join. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, including teachers, tradespeople, ex-ADF members and people simply looking to give back to their community.

Depending on your interests and availability, you could be involved in:

• Mentoring and supervising cadets on parade nights and camps

• Instructing in areas such as seamanship, drill, first aid, sport or leadership

• Helping plan and run activities, camps and adventure training

• Administration, logistics or support roles (e.g. stores, catering, transport)

• Sharing your own professional skills and experience with young people

• What We're Looking For

  • A genuine interest in youth development and mentoring young people
  • Reliability and a willingness to commit some evenings and occasional weekends
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude — you don't need prior Cadet or Navy experience
  • Willingness to undergo the required screening checks (Working with Children Check and national police check) as part of ANC's Youth Safe Culture requirements

  Full training provided — no prior experience necessary. All volunteers complete ANC-run induction and role-specific training after joining, at no cost to you.
