The program 

The Townsville Wellbeing Centre provides a welcoming home away from home for people travelling from rural and remote areas to receive medical treatment at the Townsville Hospital. The Centre is designed to reflect the Red Cross wellbeing model with its sense of openness, welcome and homeliness, mirroring health and recovery. 

The opportunity

For this role, a love of the outdoors and all things gardening is required as you will be required to perform various gardening activities. Planning and organisational skills are also essential to maintaining gardening schedules and equipment for future use. 

Key Roles and Responsibilities include:

•    Liaise with other volunteers and community members
•    Contribute where possible to any events or activities at the centre
•    Clean and maintain any gardening equipment 
•    Provide meet and greet services to guest (only where required)
•    Various gardening activities including; planting, watering, weeding, composting, mulching and maintaining garden beds 
•    Gurney of walk and pathways
•    General tidy and moving of items in general storage areas
•    Participate in any centre team meetings where required

The impact 

As a volunteer, you will help those travelling for medical treatment feel at home and ease their recovery by listening, empathising, and providing them with a friendly voice. You will have the opportunity to learn from many people’s diverse history and knowledge, as well as feeling the satisfaction of giving back to others.      

Application requirements

  • For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, organised through Red Cross. 
  • The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory.  Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.
  • You will need to provide details for two professional references.
