Events & Community Welcome Volunteer
Flexible event and project-based volunteering | Kirra Hill and approved community locations
The Community French Language School Inc. is creating a multicultural education and cultural hub at Kirra Hill on the southern Gold Coast.
French is our starting point—but connection is our purpose. Through cultural celebrations, creative workshops, community conversations and family activities, we want to create opportunities for people of different ages, languages and backgrounds to meet, participate and discover something new.
We are looking for friendly, dependable and community-minded volunteers to help make CFLS events feel welcoming, inclusive and thoughtfully organised.
You may support one event, contribute to a defined project or return occasionally for activities that interest you. You will work within an agreed role under the guidance of the CFLS Project Director, Event Lead or another authorised supervisor.
Choose how you contribute
Depending on your interests and the event, you may participate through one or more pathways:
Community Welcome
Greet visitors, explain the event layout and help people find the appropriate activity or CFLS contact.
Event Preparation
Help prepare signs, information displays, name labels, welcome packs, activity resources or approved decorations.
Activity Support
Assist an authorised facilitator with creative, cultural, language or community activities.
Community Connection
Help visitors learn about approved CFLS programmes, future events and ways to participate.
Event Experience Project
Help improve accessibility, visitor information, feedback tools or the overall event journey.
Set-up and Pack-down
Help organise approved equipment, materials, furniture and displays following safety instructions.
Activities are offered in advance. You may accept or decline them according to your interests, availability and approved role.
What you could help with
Depending on the activity agreed with your supervisor, you may:
- help prepare event spaces, information points and activity materials;
- welcome visitors and help them navigate the venue;
- provide current programme and event information from approved materials;
- assist with authorised check-in or registration processes;
- distribute programmes, name labels or welcome packs;
- support an authorised facilitator during workshops or community activities;
- encourage respectful and inclusive participation;
- help make activities accessible to people from different backgrounds;
- direct enquiries to the appropriate CFLS team member;
- observe visitor flow and identify practical improvements;
- collect feedback using approved forms or tools;
- support approved photography-consent processes without independently taking or publishing images;
- help return materials and spaces to their agreed condition;
- report hazards, incidents, safeguarding concerns or participant needs promptly; and
- contribute de-identified attendance or feedback information to approved event reports.
A project you can help shape
During the CFLS foundation stage, you might contribute to a defined project such as:
- designing the welcome journey for the first Kirra Hill community event;
- helping prepare a cultural discovery day;
- creating an event welcome kit;
- developing accessible signs and visitor information;
- helping coordinate a community skills-sharing activity;
- testing a simple visitor feedback system;
- preparing a reusable event set-up checklist;
- suggesting inclusive activities that connect generations and cultures; or
- helping develop thoughtful ways to thank participants, partners and volunteers.
All ideas and activities remain subject to CFLS approval, available resources and relevant privacy, safety and safeguarding requirements.
This opportunity may suit you if you
- enjoy welcoming people and helping them feel included;
- are friendly, dependable and calm in active environments;
- communicate respectfully with people of different ages and backgrounds;
- enjoy cultural, creative or community activities;
- can follow an event plan and ask questions when something is unclear;
- notice when someone may need information or assistance;
- understand the importance of privacy and appropriate boundaries;
- are comfortable referring difficult questions or concerns to a supervisor;
- can work cooperatively as part of a small team; and
- believe community events should be welcoming, safe and meaningful.
Experience in events, hospitality, education, arts, tourism, customer service or community engagement is welcome but not essential.
French-language skills are appreciated but are not required.
