Help transform a space into a place where community can happen
Before a workshop begins, a family arrives or a cultural event comes to life, someone has helped make the space safe, accessible and welcoming.
The Community French Language School Inc. is establishing a multicultural education and cultural hub at Kirra Hill on the southern Gold Coast. Through language learning, creative programmes, cultural events and shared community experiences, we aim to bring children, adults and families together.
We are looking for practical, dependable and safety-minded volunteers to help prepare activity spaces, organise resources and restore venues after selected CFLS programmes and events.
You may help with one event, join an occasional setup team or contribute to a defined venue-improvement project. You will always work within an agreed task under the guidance of the CFLS Operations, Venue or Activity Lead.
Choose how you contribute
Depending on your interests and abilities, you may contribute through one or more pathways:
Room Setup
Help arrange tables, chairs, signs and low-risk programme equipment according to an approved layout.
Event Pack-Down
Help return equipment, resources and shared spaces to their agreed condition after an activity.
Resources & Inventory
Help organise approved supplies, check inventory and report missing or damaged items.
Welcoming Spaces Project
Suggest practical improvements to signage, accessibility, storage or the participant arrival experience.
Delivery & Storage Support
Assist an authorised team member with approved deliveries and safe storage.
Opening or Closing Assistance
Support an authorised lead with an agreed checklist. Volunteers will not normally act as sole key holders or independently open or close a venue.
Activities are offered in advance. You may accept or decline them according to your availability, interests and physical capacity.
What you could help with
Depending on the agreed activity, you may:
- complete a simple room and access check using an approved checklist;
- arrange tables, chairs, signs and low-risk equipment safely;
- help keep exits, accessible routes and safety equipment unobstructed;
- prepare welcome points and activity areas;
- check resources against an inventory;
- report damaged, missing or unsafe items;
- organise approved equipment and programme materials;
- assist an authorised person with deliveries and storage;
- help with simple lighting, window and equipment checks;
- clean small incidental spills using approved products and procedures;
- reset spaces after programmes and events;
- identify and isolate a low-risk hazard while assistance is requested; and
- suggest practical ways to make CFLS spaces safer, clearer and more welcoming.
You will never be expected to lift something beyond your capacity, use unfamiliar equipment without instruction or undertake repairs or specialist maintenance.
A project you could help shape
During the CFLS foundation stage, you might contribute to a defined project such as:
- creating reusable room-layout plans;
- developing a simple event setup kit;
- improving signs and visitor directions;
- organising an accessible programme-resource area;
- creating an equipment check-in and check-out system;
- helping design a room-opening or pack-down checklist;
- reviewing storage arrangements;
- mapping accessible routes through an activity space; or
- preparing an inventory for community events and outreach activities.
All projects remain subject to CFLS approval and relevant venue, accessibility, safety and safeguarding requirements.
This opportunity may suit you if you
- enjoy practical tasks with visible results;
- are reliable and work well with others;
- follow checklists and safety instructions carefully;
- notice hazards, damage or missing items;
- use good judgment when lifting or moving equipment;
- respect shared spaces, equipment, keys and security arrangements;
- are comfortable asking for help or stopping an unsafe task;
- can work calmly before or after an event;
- understand that accessibility is part of a welcoming experience; and
- prefer occasional activity blocks to a compulsory weekly commitment.
