Social Media Volunteer

Help us inspire more people to create wildlife-friendly gardens across Geelong. 

Geelong Gardens for Wildlife is looking for a creative and enthusiastic volunteer to help us share our work and connect with the local community through social media. 

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys Instagram, Facebook, nature, photography, and storytelling, and would like to use their skills to support local biodiversity. 

What you’ll do 

Working with the Geelong Gardens for Wildlife team, you’ll help: 

• Develop and schedule engaging content for Instagram and Facebook  
• Share stories about local wildlife, wildlife-friendly gardens and native plants  
• Promote workshops, garden visits, community activities and events  
• Turn photographs, videos and information supplied by volunteers into engaging posts  
• Help showcase the impact of Geelong Gardens for Wildlife in the community  
• Keep our social media presence active, interesting and welcoming  
• Suggest new ideas for content and ways to grow community engagement  
• Monitor basic engagement and help us understand what content people respond to

What we’re looking for 

We’re looking for someone who: 

• Enjoys social media and understands what makes an engaging post  
• Has good written communication skills  
• Is interested in gardening, native plants, birds, wildlife or environmental conservation  
• Has an eye for good photographs and visual storytelling  
• Is organised and reliable  
• Can work independently while staying connected with the team  
• Is comfortable using Instagram and Facebook  
• Canva and/or Meta Business Suite experience would be an advantage, but isn’t essential    - but a desire to learn this suite it

Time commitment 

Approximately 2 hours per week, with flexibility around when you volunteer – i.e. you may schedule posts a few weeks in advance. 

We’re particularly interested in someone who can make a regular commitment over at least a year, so we can build a consistent social media presence and get to know you as part of the team.

Location 

Geelong and surrounding areas 
The role can be undertaken largely remotely, with occasional opportunities to attend G4W activities or events to capture content.
