Ageing with Grace is looking for friendly and dependable volunteers to provide regular companionship to older people across the Hume region!

We currently have several older people waiting to be matched with a Volunteer Visitor:

Alexander – Barmah

Alexander enjoys football, Scouts, travel, camping, playing cards and talking about almost anything. Living in a rural area, he would value a friendly visitor who enjoys good conversation and can visit him regularly at home.

Jill – Glenrowan

Jill enjoys poetry, singing, walking, gardening, art and reading. She would appreciate the company of an older female volunteer who enjoys conversation, creative activities and spending time in the garden.

Maurice – Benloch

Maurice has led an interesting life, including working as a chef and driver and volunteering with Scouts. He enjoys gardening, antiques, stamps, pets and sharing stories. He would love someone to visit for a coffee and a chat or occasionally meet him in the community.

Malcom – Tatura

Malcom is friendly, bubbly and enjoys talking about life in general. He loves gardening, going out for coffee and taking an occasional drive. He would enjoy meeting a retired volunteer who is interested in regular conversations and outings.

Margaret – Beechworth

Margaret would benefit from the dependable companionship of an older female volunteer. She values punctuality and consistency and would appreciate someone who can visit regularly, have a friendly conversation and occasionally read through letters or paperwork with her.

Jean – Numurkah

Jean grew up in Shepparton and would love to have someone outside her residential aged care home to talk with. She enjoys friendly conversations and spending time in the garden. She is seeking a female volunteer who would like to build a genuine and lasting friendship.

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme is an Australian Government-funded program that helps reduce loneliness and social isolation among older people receiving aged care services.

As a Volunteer Visitor, you will:

  • Be thoughtfully matched with one older person based on your location, interests and preferences
  • Visit regularly, preferably weekly or at least once a fortnight
  • Build a genuine one-to-one friendship over time
  • Complete a simple record following each visit
  • Receive training and ongoing support from Ageing with Grace

Requirements

  • Aged 18 years or older
  • National Police Certificate
  • Two referee checks
  • Ability to travel safely to the recipient’s suburb
  • Commitment to regular visits for at least 12 months

No previous experience is required. We are looking for compassionate, patient and reliable people who genuinely enjoy connecting with older people.

When applying, please tell us which person or suburb interests you. Final matches will be arranged according to the preferences and suitability of both the volunteer and the older person.

If you can offer a regular conversation, a shared cuppa and a little kindness, we would love to hear from you.
