We are seeking a male volunteer to provide companionship and meaningful one-on-one time with Frank, a friendly resident who would benefit from regular social connection and engagement.

Frank has always enjoyed an active lifestyle and has a strong interest in aviation, travel, nature and the outdoors. He particularly enjoys conversation, watching movies and television, listening to music and sharing stories about his past experiences.

We are looking for a friendly, patient and reliable male volunteer who can develop a genuine rapport with Frank and share some of his interests.

Activities might include:

  • ✈️ Chatting about aviation, travel and life experiences
  • πŸ“Ί Watching movies or programs together
  • 🐦 Bird watching and enjoying nature
  • β˜• Having a cuppa and a chat
  • 🎡 Listening to music
  • 🌳 Supporting enjoyable and appropriate outdoor activities

The most important thing is companionship, conversation and helping Frank feel connected and engaged.

We are specifically seeking a male volunteer, as this is considered the best fit for Frank and the relationship we are hoping to establish.

No special qualifications are required, just patience, a friendly personality, reliability and a willingness to spend some quality time with Frank.

Why Volunteer?
Many elderly Australians in aged care homes face loneliness and social isolation. By volunteering just one hour a fortnight, you can make a significant difference in their lives. You'll be matched one-on-one with a resident who could greatly benefit from your friendship. Studies show that loneliness can be as detrimental to health as smoking, and sadly, over 40% of people in aged care lack regular visitors. Your presence can help bridge this gap.

We understand travelling to the island requires time and commitment, and we are looking for volunteers who can offer reliability, consistency, and genuine presence in the lives of our Elders. This is a rewarding opportunity to give back to community, learn through shared experiences, and make a meaningful difference through presence, respect, and connection.

Program Details:

  • Dedication: We're looking for people to visit approximately 20+ times over a twelve-month period, at least once every 2 weeks.
  • Requirements: Must be over 18 years old, pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) (provided and paid for by us) and ideally be available to visit consistently and ongoing.

Ideal Volunteers:

  • Commit to a minimum 12-month volunteering period
  • Value the opportunity to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and community
  • Be willing and able to travel to North Stradbroke Island if living on the mainland, including catching the ferry for volunteer visits
  • Or ideally, be someone already living within the North Stradbroke Island community
  • Exhibit care and compassion for the elderly
  • Have excellent communication skills
