๐๐ค๐ Italian-Speaking Female Volunteer โ Companionship & Connection| Toowoomba
St Vincent's Health Australia supported by Volunteering Queensland

Could you spare an hour a fortnight to make a meaningful difference in someoneโs life?
We are seeking a warm, friendly Italian-speaking female volunteer to provide companionship and meaningful one-on-one time with a female resident who would love the opportunity to connect with someone who can speak Italian.
For many older people, being able to speak in their first or preferred language can bring a wonderful sense of familiarity, comfort and connection. We are looking for someone who can share conversation, laughter and companionship, while helping this resident feel heard, valued and less alone.
You don't need to be a professional or have any special qualifications. You simply need to be kind, patient, reliable and comfortable speaking Italian, with a genuine interest in getting to know an older person and building a friendship over time.
What might you do together?
๐ขโช๐ด Enjoy conversations in Italian
โ Share a cuppa and a friendly chat
๐ฌ Talk about life, family, memories and experiences
๐ต Listen to music together
๐ณ Enjoy some fresh air or an appropriate outdoor activity
โค๏ธ Simply spend time together and enjoy each otherโs company
There is no expectation to plan elaborate activities. Sometimes the most meaningful thing you can offer is simply your time, your conversation and your company.
The relationship will develop naturally around the resident's personality, interests and preferences. Our hope is that, over time, you will become a familiar and friendly face that she looks forward to seeing.
Why Volunteer?
Loneliness and social isolation can have a profound impact on older people living in aged care. Regular companionship can provide connection, purpose and a sense of belonging.
For an Italian-speaking resident, having someone who can comfortably converse in Italian can be especially meaningful. It can create an opportunity to reminisce, share stories and experiences, express herself comfortably and maintain an important connection to language and culture.
Just one hour every fortnight could become one of the most valued parts of someone's week.
This is a wonderful opportunity to meet someone new, share experiences, learn from another generation and make a genuine difference through friendship and companionship.
