Court Support Officers Victims and Witnesses of Crime Court Support - Bankstown - #246807

Court Support Officers are the front line of VWCCS's service. Stationed at NSW Local and District Courts, CSOs help victims, witnesses, and other court attendees by:

*Providing a warm, non-judgmental welcome and orienting people to the court environment

*Offering practical information about court processes, layout, and what to expect on the day

*Providing emotional support and a reassuring presence during what is often an overwhelming experience

*Identifying and referring people to appropriate support services

*Assisting people to locate courtrooms, registries, and other court facilities

CSOs work in pairs on rostered court days. The role is on-site at court and involves interacting with a wide cross-section of the community, including people who may be distressed or in crisis.

All new CSOs complete comprehensive induction training covering court processes, trauma-informed practice, cultural awareness, and self-care, including a specialist Wellbeing and Vicarious Trauma course delivered by the Blue Knot Foundation.

The Impact of this Role: CSOs are the backbone of VWCCS's service delivery. Without volunteers, VWCCS simply could not operate — the organisation is almost entirely volunteer-run at the service delivery level. Each new CSO directly extends the reach and consistency of court support services, particularly as VWCCS expands into new court locations such as Bankstown. Since 2006, VWCCS volunteers have collectively supported more than 28,000 victims and witnesses across NSW.
