Tech Buddy Volunteer – Help an Older Person Feel Confident with Technology

Ageing with Grace is seeking patient, friendly and reliable volunteers to help older people build confidence using everyday technology.
As a Tech Buddy Volunteer, you will be matched with an older person who would benefit from friendly, one-to-one support. You do not need to be an IT expert—just comfortable using common devices and able to explain things clearly and patiently.
What you may help with
- Using a mobile phone, tablet or computer
- Sending emails and text messages
- Making video calls to family and friends
- Downloading and using applications
- Adjusting basic device settings
- Accessing everyday online services
- Recognising suspicious messages and practising online safety
- Saving and sharing photographs
- Building confidence through regular practice
Support will be tailored to the older person’s interests, abilities and goals.
About you
You may be a great Tech Buddy if you:
- Enjoy helping and connecting with older people
- Are patient, respectful and a good listener
- Can explain technology in clear, everyday language
- Are dependable and willing to provide regular support
- Respect privacy, confidentiality and personal boundaries
- Are aged 18 years or older
No professional IT experience is required. Training and ongoing support will be provided by Ageing with Grace.
Time commitment
Tech Buddy visits are generally arranged weekly or fortnightly, depending on the availability and preferences of the volunteer and the older person.
We are seeking volunteers who can make a regular commitment and build a genuine, supportive relationship over time. Visit times can be arranged around your availability.
Volunteer requirements
Successful applicants will need to:
- Complete a volunteer application and interview
- Provide two referees
- Hold or obtain a National Police Certificate
- Complete the required orientation and training
- Follow Ageing with Grace’s privacy, safety and professional-boundary requirements
- Travel safely to the agreed visiting location, where applicable
Role boundaries
Tech Buddies provide guidance and encouragement but do not repair devices, access banking information, handle passwords, make purchases or complete financial transactions on another person’s behalf.
If you have patience, kindness and everyday technology skills, we would love to hear from you!
