Rethink Australia Foundation Ltd is a youth-led environmental organisation empowering students and schools to drive sustainability through education, technology and community action.
Our work brings together environmental education, student leadership, technology-enabled solutions and partnerships to create meaningful and measurable change. As Rethink Australia grows, we are seeking an experienced Volunteer Finance Officer to help maintain accurate financial records and strengthen our day-to-day financial administration.
This is a practical, ongoing role for someone who is comfortable working with Xero and supporting the reliable financial operation of a growing organisation.
Key responsibilities
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in Xero
• Categorise income and expenditure appropriately
• Complete regular bank reconciliations
• Maintain organised records of invoices, receipts, expenses and supporting documentation
• Assist with accounts payable and receivable administration where required
• Support budget tracking and cash-flow visibility
• Prepare routine internal financial reports for organisational review
• Help track grants, donations and restricted funding where applicable
• Maintain accurate supplier, donor and transaction information
• Assist in preparing financial information for external accountants, reporting obligations and organisational decision-making
• Help document practical financial procedures and record-keeping processes
• Identify and escalate transactions, discrepancies or accounting matters requiring further review or professional advice
About you
We are seeking a skilled and dependable professional with demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Bookkeeping
• Accounting
• Finance administration
• Xero account management
• Bank reconciliation
• Financial record keeping
• Budget and cash-flow tracking
• Charity or not-for-profit finance
Practical experience using Xero and completing bank reconciliations is essential.
Bookkeeping or accounting qualifications, Xero certification, and experience with charities, not-for-profits, grants or restricted funding will be highly regarded.
The successful applicant will have strong attention to detail, sound judgement, professional integrity and the ability to handle confidential financial information appropriately. The applicant should be comfortable working independently while communicating clearly when information, approvals or professional advice are required.
